Demeter is known as the goddess of the Fruitful Earth. She is often depicted with ears of corn braided around her head, carrying a torch (representing her search for her daughter, Persephone) with her animal allies, the snake and the pig. The horse and the bee are also sacred to her.

When her beautiful daughter Persephone was abducted and brought to the underworld, Demeter was overcome with sorrow. Her determination to get her daughter back was relentless as she searched the world weeping and broken hearted. So that the earth would reflect her inconsolable grief, Demeter stopped the growth of all plants, grain and flowers. As a result, the earth became barren and remained that way until finally, Zeus sent Hermes to the underworld to retrieve Persephone and reunite her with her mother. As mother and daughter reunited, vegetation returned and once again, the land became fruitful.

Demeter will assist you in your quest to grow the seeds of your dreams. She will assist you in staying focused. She is loyal and determined and will help you to stay on your chosen path. Demeter is a beacon of hope that you will one day be happy again. She assists women to express their grief when their last child leaves the nest. (See also Persephone)
